Smashbox #Shapematters Palette

A recent purchase that I have been using on the daily is the Smashbox #Shape Matters Palette. I didn't really know anything about Smashbox releasing a new palette for the holidays. I am not an avid Smashbox follower as all I've ever used from them was the Double Exposure Palette which was an impulsive buy.

Anyways, on to the palette. The palette was enclosed within a paper box shown in the photo above. Inside there is the palette and a pack of cards. Inside there is a pack that comes with written tutorials on each aspect of the palette, brows, eyes and face. These are called the interactive get the look cards. The tutorials are available online on youtube I believe. I haven't watched them yet

Inside of the palette you get two brow shades and a wax. The brow shades are light for me. If it was summer and my hair was a little lighter then they would work well for a subtle brow filling, however I find myself having to use that dark matte brown eyeshadow in  the palette for it to work on me. The wax included is really good, sticks those hairs like superglue. However the wax isn't a clear consistency and leaves the brows with a shiny white cast that I follow up with the L'Oreal brow artiste plumper.

A cult favorite are the sculpting powders. These are what I live for! For the past year I have been using the Anastasia Beverly Hills contour kit but I feel like these shades give a better pigment pay off and also last a bit longer on the skin. The banana shade is very nice, and I use it to set my concealer and to highlight as it is light enough to set and highlight. The bronze shade I use for bronzer and the gruyere tone I use more for carving out the cheek bones and the nose area (if I can be bothered).

The shadows in this palette are very nice and pigmented and blend nicely. The way they have been placed is the the row of three going down would make a complete eye look. The first row would make a very nice neutral eye. The second row would make a pretty girly look. The first shade all over the list and the crease and the shimmering pink on the mobile lid, then the park purple could be used to deepen the crease and be mixed with water for eyeliner. The last three shades are a more night time/ going out look. The shimmering gold for an inner corner highlight and on the brow bone, the sparkly greenish shade all over and the black to smoke it out.

Here are the swatches of the colours. I have edited the photo the best I can to try and get an accurate representation of what they look like in real life.

Many thanks for reading. x
